Key Leaders of the American Revolution: Review Activity

Assignment: Students will choose one of the key individuals of the Revolutionary war studied in class, if necessary they will do additional research to supplement what they learned about that individual, when finished they will 1) Write a 6-10 word memoir encapsulating their chosen individuals life. They will then write a 25 sec presentation highlighting the life and contributions of their chosen individual.  Once finished they will 2) record a 30 second video podcast, using their memoir & presentation written in step 1 and the illustration of their individual provided below.  3) When finished students will follow share their video podcast on the "Chalkboard Padlet". Step by step instructions to complete steps 1-3 are posted below.
Step 1: How do I write a 30 second presentation?
  • Legend has it that the author Ernest Hemingway was once challenged to write a story in only six words. His response? “For sale: baby shoes, never worn.” Last year, SMITH Magazine re-ignited the story by asking readers for their own six-word memoir (life story). They sent in short life stories in droves, from the bittersweet (“Cursed with cancer, blessed with friends”) and poignant (“I still make coffee for two”) to the inspirational (“Business school? Bah! Pop music? Hurrah”) and hilarious (“I like cute girls, can’t lie”).  Choose one of the individuals you learned about in Specialty Area 7-10 and write a six-ten word memoir. For example if I were writing for Washington I could say “Great Man give all for U.S.”.
  • When finished write a 25 second (approximately 30-40 word biography of your chosen individual.  Be sure to include their full name, where born, family life, and significant contributions in the birth of our nation.

Step 3: How do I post the audio podcast in fotobabble to the Key Leaders of the American Revolution Wall?
  • Double click anywhere on the wall. 
  • In the section entitled "Title", type the name of the key leader, followed by a ":" and your 6-10 word memoir for whom you created an audio podcast.
  • In the subheading, type the following: "Audio podcast created by...* (type your first and last name).  See the example below
  • Go to fotobabble.com (this can be done on an iPad or laptop), sign in using the username: acadb5 and the password: acadb5, 
  • If working on a laptop, minimize your screen so that you can see both padlet (below) and the fotobabble page.  With both pages open simply drag the audio podcast you created in Step 2, to the box you created at the beginning of Step 3"
