I.  Introduction to the English Reformation

The English Reformation was a series of events in 16th century England by which the Church of England broke away from the authority of the Pope and the Catholic Church.

1.  Before starting the assignment watch the introductory video from the History Channel below.  Be sure your headsets are plugged in correctly.
 Assignment: 1, Part B  (Complete 2016) Due 12/6
2.  The lecture inset below teaches the English Reformation.  You will need to have your notebook opened to a blank piece of paper to gather information while watching the video.
  • Listen to the content lecture, while listening you should list 10 key individuals, events and or ideas listed in the video  Note the content lectures are 21 minutes in length.
  • When finished with both lectures,  use the key individuals, events and or ideas you identified to write a one paragraph summary of the English Reformation.  Be sure to include the key individuals, events and ideas you listed while watching.
  • Collect an American History TEXTBOOK from the front of the classroom OR access the reading entitled Elizabeth Flirts with America, Textbook Readings page 122-123 below.
  • Read pages 122-123 and write out and complete the questions below (on the same paper as your short essay)
    • Who raised money with the permission of Queen Elizabeth to establish a colony in the Americas?
    • In what year did they establish their first settlement?
    • What happened wit their first attempt?
    • Who was the first Englishman born in America?
    • What happened in the second settlement?
    • Why do you think the colony failed? Explain your answer

2.  The presentation inset below teaches the English Reformation, it corresponds to pages 111-114 in your student WORKBOOK; as such, you should begin your assignment by opening your textbook to pages 111-114
  • Listen to the content lecture you should complete (fill in the blank and underline) the text in your WORKBOOK  Note the content lecture is 45 minutes in length.
  • Be sure to pause and complete the textbook assignment when asked.
  • When finished with the video, notes and textbook assignments complete the summary assignment on page 114 of the workbook.

  1. Click on the image on your right to open the webpage sharing the story of slavery in the Americas through images.
  2. While viewing the images, write a list of 10-15 short phrases, and/or words recording and/or encapsulating the events, ideas, emotions expressed in the pictures.
  3. Once completed with the research, post your list of phrases or words within the Google Doc. that has been shared with you entitled: The roots of Slavery in America.

    Translating the Mayflower Compact
    The first successful English colony in New England (the North-Eastern U.S) was in Plymouth, Massachusetts, in 1620.  The group consisted of 102 men and women, 1/2 Separatists (Christians who had separated from the Church of England), and 1/2 Strangers (Non-separatist Englishman/women).  They traveled on the ship the Mayflower to the Americas.  Prior to disembarking (getting off of) the Men all of the men signed the Mayflower Compact.  The first written government of consent established in the Colonies.

    Directions: In the space provided after each phrase, translate the text into the common vernacular, (words and phrases you would use).  See the example below:
